Disabled Options for Townsville Airport Car Rental

Disability Access
If you have a disability that is likely to hinder your checking in and boarding experience at Townsville Airport, please notify the airline you are flying with in advance. They can arrange such aids as a wheelchair for use in the terminal if yours is checked, and can also book space for assistance dogs on the plane.
Accessible parking is provided within all public carparks at Townsville Airport, except for the premium carpark which has no disabled bays. The designated bays are located closest to the walkways, and may only be used with a valid disability parking permit. In the kerbside access area for dropping off passengers, there are two designated bays for vehicles displaying valid permits.
In the area surrounding the terminal, kerbside rampways allow easy wheelchair access to and from carparks, and tactile indicators provide assistance for the visually impaired by indicating direction and obstacles.
Inside the terminal, there are several features aimed at making it easy for those with disabilities to navigate the building. The departure gates are on the first floor, and can be accessed by lifts at the northern end. There are accessible toilet facilities throughout the terminal, and flight/emergency information is both displayed visually and transmitted audibly over the PA system. Certified assistance dogs are welcome in all areas of the terminal, and will need to pass through security screenings with their owners. A grassed area for their toileting can be found within 300 metres of the terminal on Stinson Avenue.
Security screening can require some procedural adjustments for passengers with disabilities, and it can take longer, so allow more time for this. If your mobility aid sets off the metal detector, a physical search may be required, which can be done in a private area. Please talk to the screening staff about any medical implants or prostheses which may set off the metal detector.
