Townsville Airport Services
Townsville Airport is not open 24/7, but opens at 4am and closes at 11pm every day. Sleeping in the airport overnight is not permitted, and the carparks are closed for entry and exit during this time also.
The terminal has two ATMs. One can be found near the landside cafe, and the other is airside near the elevators. There are no currency exchange outlets.
Lost and Found
If your lost item was left onboard an aircraft, you will need to contact the airline directly to retrieve it. If it was lost in the terminal, contact the Customer Service Officers on 1800 225 878 during airport operating hours.
Wireless internet is available throughout the Townsville Airport terminal, and it costs from $5.60 for 30 minutes to $7.70 for one hour. Those who use the airport regularly can purchase a month of internet access for $49.95. To access the Airport Wi-Fi, find it on your network list and follow the prompts.
Cleveland Bay Beach is very close to Townsville Airport, and is a sweeping stretch of sand with views of the lovely Magnetic Island offshore. At one end of the beach is the extensive Town Common Conservation Park which is a beautiful place for walking, biking and wildlife-spotting. Castle Hill is another natural feature located within easy reach of the airport. It is a pink granite monolith which stands guard over the city, one of the most distinctive landmarks of Townsville.
There are no major shopping malls close to the airport in Townsville, but a little further afield you will find Domain Central, an outlet shopping centre, and the extensive Castletown Shoppingworld. Golfers can get in a few holes at Rowes Bay Golf Club.
Security threats are taken very seriously in Townsville Airport. For this reason, please ensure that you do not leave any baggage unattended, or make any comments or jokes about weapons or explosives. Both can result in questioning and being unable to fly.
Security screenings include passing carry-on baggage through an x-ray machine, and passing passengers through a metal detector to check for any weapons, potential weapons or explosives. Security screening is mandatory for all passengers and also for anyone wishing to pass into the security-controlled Departures and Arrivals Lounge. The processes can be modified for anyone who has physical difficulties in passing through the metal detector. A random sample of people may be asked to undergo a test using an explosive trace detection machine.
